Cargo bound for Asia historically moved through Persian Gulf ports like Bandar Abbas, with a relatively direct sea crossing toward South and Southeast Asian ports. That route is no longer how we ship. With Bandar Abbas out of use, cargo is now trucked overland to Mersin, Turkey, then moves by sea — typically via the Suez Canal and Indian Ocean — toward Asian destinations.

This is a genuinely longer path than the old direct Gulf route, and it’s worth being upfront about that rather than pretending otherwise: total transit times to Asia are running longer than they did when Persian Gulf ports were in normal operation. What hasn’t changed is the reliability of the route itself — Mersin sits on established container line schedules, so while the journey is longer, it remains predictable.
